Event description

Lockdown can be a tricky experience. Give yourself a dose of creative first aid with this beautiful online workshop diving into the art of stitching as a meditative practice, with textile artist Michele Elliot.

Join Michele for an hour of slow and soothing stitching and get started on the super simple technique of kantha style embroidery. It is such an easy stitch to learn, and a great introduction for beginners. If you are interested in the meditative craft, this is perfect for you.

Kantha is a traditional type of embroidery originating in West Bengal and the eastern part of India and Bangladesh. It is often used for repairing and patching as well as decorative embellishments in quilts and homeware. In recent years, it has become part of the language of contemporary textiles and embroidery.

This is a creative workshop designed to kickstart a playful practice

You will need:

Materials from home -
A needle or two

Scissors

Thread (either embroidery thread or regular sewing thread, whatever you have at home)

Some plain coloured fabric (cotton, calico, an old pillowcase you can cut up)

Before the class, please cut out 2 x 15cm squares of plain fabric.

Suitable for ages 12-112
