Balingup Small Farm Experience 2021 - Farm Visit - Self Drive (approx 12 kms from The Village Green)
A 120-acre poultry farm on the banks of the Blackwood (Goorbilliyup) River. Founded in 1854, the triple heritage listed farm buildings were badly damaged by a severe fire in 2013, but the farm was regenerated by owners Jeff Pow and Michelle McManus and went on to receive two National Landcare Awards in 2016.
Growing and harvesting in excess of 6000 birds per year, Michelle and Jeff will share their practice of regenerative agriculture, which includes raising meat chickens out on its biodiverse, perennial pastures, combined with planned grazing of a small Belted Galloway cow herd. If you want to know more about building soil and carbon, and increasing your land's water holding capacity, this is a must. The couple and their staff also operate one of the only remaining small family abattoirs in the Southwest, reclaiming the terms of trade back onto the farm.
Please note farm visits include walking on steps, uneven ground and around worksites.
