Tiny Food Forest Tour: Small Space, Big Possibilities 🌿

Join us for an inspiring and practical permaculture garden tour in Woodville Gardens, where an ordinary 240m² suburban block has been transformed into a productive, climate-resilient food forest.

This interactive session offers a real-world look at how permaculture principles can be applied at home using creativity, observation, and low-cost solutions.

Hosted by one of our members Elle, this tour shares the highs and lows of establishing a garden from scratch while working within the design constraints of a very compact site.

You’ll hear how challenges like heavy clay soil, builders’ rubble, intense summer heat, strong winds, and limited space were turned into opportunities for thoughtful, regenerative design and biodiversity.

Together, we’ll explore:

• Food forest concepts, soil health, layered planting, and growing delicious food in small spaces

• Heat mitigation strategies including shade systems, vines, and microclimate design

• Wicking beds, water management, and creation of habitat for birds, insects, and frogs

• Seed saving, seed raising and propagation from cuttings

• A developing street verge butterfly garden featuring locally native plants of the Adelaide Plains

• Resource recovery systems including worm farms, composting, and reclaimed materials

• Creative ‘roadside rescues’, community gifting, and low-cost gardening approaches

• What can be achieved in just 2.5 years, and where to start.

There will be plenty of opportunities to ask questions, share ideas, and connect with others interested in bountiful harvests, biodiversity regeneration and community resilience.

Whether you’re a beginner or already on your permaculture journey, you’ll leave with practical ideas and inspiration you can apply in tiny suburban spaces.
