Smart Cities: Who Benefits?

This event has passed Register

Event description

This Conversation is part of Remarkable Insights.

There is significant opportunity to leverage technological innovation to drive an inclusive future. But who is left behind as technology transforms the society around us.

How might we use Remarkable Insights to create an inclusive now?

In an era of connected technologies, many cities are turning to technology and smart city solutions to build more liveable environments. What would it take to build cities of the future in which everyone can live and thrive?

We can define the ideal smart city as a place that incorporates technology to make city life more accessible and efficient, without feeling like technology is present. The question then is, accessible for who?

In this monthly Remarkable Insights, Founder of Remarkable, Pete Horsley, will moderate a conversation with advocates and innovators of inclusive smart city initiatives and technologies that adopt a people-first approach to benefit people with disabilities and the elderly.

Introducing our panel:

Adriana Mallozzi, Entrepreneur, innovator, and most importantly disability advocate. Adriana combines her entrepreneurial spirit with a passion for technology and empowering people with disabilities. In 2017, she formed Puffin Innovations - an assistive technology startup whose flagship product is an innovative, mouth-operated input device that incorporates machine learning, artificial intelligence, and IoT connectivity to give people with disabilities greater opportunities to lead more inclusive, independent lives. She is also working on, along with 3 others, creating an accessible, inclusive co-working space for current and aspiring entrepreneurs with disabilities, as well as small businesses/organizations that serve the disability community called Quirk LAABS (Leveraging Abilities to Achieve Better Solutions). @AdrianaMallozzi

Anna Wright is the CEO and Co-Founder of BindiMaps - a navigation app revolutionising the way we navigate indoor spaces. Launched in January 2017, BindiMaps is an award-winning smart cities technology startup, bringing accessibility to people and places currently out of bounds for people who are vision-impaired. Anna developed the idea for BindiMaps after undergoing years of major surgery to save her own eye-sight - a daunting experience that led her to ask the question "how can we make the world more accessible for people with vision impairment?". Anna is a recognised leader in the startup ecosystem. It is her passion for impact that has seen Anna nominated for 2019 Australian of the Year, listed as one of the top 10 Australian Entrepreneurs to watch in 2019, top 5 female Australian Entrepreneurs 2019, top 10 dynamic Australian entrepreneurs for 2020 and 2020 NSW Pearcey Entrepreneur of the Year Award finalist. @annaw_bindimaps
