SMART Holiday Coding Workshop: Best of the BBC Micro:Bit

Primary School students (in Years 3 to 6) are invited attend this 'SMART Code' Workshop!
THIS WORKSHOP REPEATS THE HIGHLIGHTS OF TERM 3'S
"MICRO:BIT & MAKECODE" STEM CLUB.
Enrolment is perfect for students who were unable to attend Term 3's STEM Club.
During this fun coding focused workshop, we'll spend the day creatively exploring the best features of the BBC micro:bit!
Students will use MakeCode block-based coding, with the opportunity to stay at a guided beginner level, or, to delve deeper at their own pace.
Beginners and coding whizz's are welcome! Coding skills will be developed through both unplugged (screen free) and computer-based activities.
Workshop activities include:
- Exploring block-based coding
- Coding for button 'inputs' and LED light 'outputs'
- Investigating variables and custom commands
- Attaching speaker's and HALO's (LED light rings) to the BBC micro:bit.

Time: 9.30 am - 2.30 pm (sign-in between 9.15 am and 9.30 am)

EXTRA INFORMATION
- Registrations are limited to 20 children, accepted based on order of registration via Humanitix
- Enrolment is only for students currently enrolled in Years 3, 4, 5, or 6 (Stages 2 and 3)
- A waitlist will be formed if needed, please contact SMART to be added to the list
- Location: A map to event location on campus will be emailed to registered attendees
- Workshop commences at 9.30 am, sign-in and drop off from 9.15 am
- Workshop concludes at 2.30pm, sign-out and pick up requested by 2.45 pm
- Supervised outdoor play and meal breaks will be scheduled during the day
- What to bring: Lunch, recess, water bottle, hat / sun protection (no nuts please)
- What to wear: Closed in shoes and comfortable clothes, for a day of indoor / outdoor active learning!
