Smart Resource Recovery - Online Event for the National Sustainable Living Festival 2021 (Zoom Webinar)

The What, Why & How of Resource Recovery Systems that can Facilitate a Smarter, Circular Economy

Current resource recovery systems are, and have always been, falling short of human and environmental needs. Smarter systems are not only possible but essential to the sustainability of the economy and the natural world. Jason's experience in waste management and ethical business offers a broad and informed perspective on the what, why and how of better waste systems. This talk is an opportunity to think outside the recycling bin; an insight into practical solutions, relationships and policy.

The speaker: Jason Rahilly, Founder/Director at B-Alternative

An entrepreneurial spirit at heart, building businesses is in Jason's blood. He launched his first official business, a personal training company, aged just 17. His late teenage years and early twenties were spent living interstate while playing state football. Jason moved into carpentry at age 22 and soon started his own business in environmentally responsible residential building projects. Jason's love for animals and frustration with plastic pollution lead to the birth of B-Alternative, his largest contribution to Earth care yet. As a business-minded human, Jason understood that by building a successful business model, he could support the philanthropic and educational activities needed to make real change. Now a licenced builder, Jason is also building Earthships and looking towards bigger projects including sustainable off-grid communities. Future enterprises include more Earthships, off-grid living, sustainable education, plastic reduction advocacy, and helping humans to understand their relationship with the planet and all its inhabitants. B-Alternative is Jason's offering to actively and tangibly reduce waste at the source while also processing organics, recyclables and waste as responsibly as possible. Since 2017, the company has helped reduce waste and carbon emissions at festivals - including renowned Falls Festival Lorne and Queenscliff Music Festival - and through hospitality venues. 2021 brings with it exciting goals to reach an extensive list of schools, Victorian businesses, and more hospitality and festival clients. It is Jason's hope that very soon, models such as B-Alternative's reusable crockery and compostable systems will be the norm across the state.
