Event description

Smudge never broke up. Smudge moved a little slower at the end of the last millennium and indeed signs of life, the beating pulse of Smudge, seemed to have ceased as last rites were read. However, in less dramatic and truer terms, Smudge never stopped drawing breath. An average of around 3.75 shows a year since 2001, new songs, three albums reissued/released in 2010 and live appearances in four timezones across two hemispheres, the Sydney/Maitland-based trio celebrated the 20th Anniversary of the release of their landmark debut album “Manilow” with a vinyl re-issue in 2014.

The following year, its 21st birthday, saw the release of “Manilow – Tribute”, a limited vinyl album reconstructed song-by- song by some of Smudge’s buddies including Courtney Barnett, Lou Barlow (Sebadoh), Evan Dando (Lemonheads), Tim Rogers &  Davey Lane (You Am I), Youth Group, The Hummingbirds and many more.

2023 saw the re-issue of their most recent studio album “Real McCoy, Wrong Sinatra” on vinyl for the first time on longtime home Half A Cow.

A new album is on the horizon. Ask nicely and they might play some at the show.

"Manilow is a wonderful sequence of tuneful vignettes. Its brisk, domestic, cute and as we would have said at the time "slack" somehow, too. " 4/5 UNCUT

“Smudge are deserving of higher accolades and This Smudge is True is a must-have for any record collection.” Xpress

Joining Smudge for a night of absolute Stryan indie mega perfection will be the utterly brilliant and equally magnificent Bridge Dog (no strangers themselves to textured, artful indie perfection) and newcomers Pearle, with their Veruca Salt/Sonic Youth tinged all femme dynamism
