Guided step‑by‑step, you’ll discover how a simple piece of soapstone can reveal beautiful colours, patterns and forms as you work with it.
Soapstone is soft and forgiving, making it a perfect introduction to stone carving - even if you’ve never sculpted before.
Treat yourself to a relaxed, creative day in a cosy brewery setting, with lunch included.
What you'll get
Your own piece of soapstone to carve.
All materials are provided to use, including carving tools (rasps and rifflers), sandpaper and wax.
Small group workshop with hands-on guidance throughout.
Lunch provided (select from the Surfboat Brewery menu, meals valued up to $20).
Knowledge required
No experience necessary.
Adults 18+ welcome.
Please note: we will be using sharp tools, so a steady hand and a cautious approach is recommended.
What to bring
Comfortable clothing you don’t mind getting messy.
Apron to wear over your clothes.
Lightweight gardening gloves if you have them.

- Is there parking at Surfboat Brewery?
Yes, there is limited on-site parking at the Surfboat Brewery. There is also on street parking.
- Who will be the teachers?
Nik Price has over 20 years’ experience as an artist and tutor with background in design. She has been carving stone for overs 15 years including serpentine, soapstone, marble and alabaster.
Alissa Booker has been carving stone for over 10 years. Starting her journey in marble she has expanded her stone carving repertoire to include alabaster, soapstone, granite and turquoise.
- Is lunch included?
Yes, lunch is included. You will be able to select from a set menu from Surfboat Brewery on the day.
- Is there a cafe close by?
Yes, Surfboat Brewery has its own cafe and will be serving coffee, tea, hot chocolate throughout the day.
