Event description
It’s 2020 and the world is experiencing something it hasn’t seen in over a century – a wide-scale global pandemic. Governments around the world are cautioning individuals to avoid large groups and maintain responsible social distancing practices. National and local running events alike are being either cancelled or postponed in unprecedented numbers to ensure safety and vigilance in this time.
What do we, as runners, do?
GO FOR A RUN, OF COURSE!
Introducing the Social Distancing Run - a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to be part of a VIRTUAL run capturing this unique time of our lives. It’s responsible, healthy, AND promoting safe social distancing practices while keeping us all motivated to continue what we love – without concerns of unknowingly spreading infection. It also helps calm our minds (and bodies!) in an otherwise chaotic time.
Even better? 100% of the registration fees will go towards WHO – World Health Organisation.
Distances on offer are 1km-21.1km. All distances are a flat rate of a $15 entry, with 100% of the registration costs going to WHO (World Health Organisation) to help those who cannot run. An optional medal is available at cost of $10 + $4 for shipping. Note: Due to the unique logistics of this event and the unpredictable affect of the health situation on medal suppliers, the medal arrival period cannot be accurately projected. It may arrive 4-6 weeks after the event completion, if not later.
To be eligible to have their results posted on the event page, all participants must do their virtual run on the weekend of 4-5 April and post their results on the event page. This event encourages & respects all practices of responsible social distancing while running, including indoor/treadmill runs. Please be aware that virtual races do not count in ‘official’ race tallies of various clubs (Marathon Maniacs, Australian 100 Marathon Club, etc) nor will they be likely to be accepted as qualifier timers to other events. They ‘merely’ give you the option of running in a safe and supportive environment while helping those who can’t run.
Rules:
1) Register for your distance.
2) Run your distance anytime between 12:00am 4 April 2020 and 11:59pm 5 April 2020, Adelaide time. All distances must be completed in one go (ie, don't run two separate 10.55km runs and call it a half marathon. If you've gone home and relaxed between the runs, it's not a virtual event)
3) Record your run with a device. TomTom, Garmin, Strava, & the like are acceptable.
4) To have your name on the results sheet (and your medal mailed out, if you've ordered one), you must post a screenshot of your completed run to the Facebook event page by 8 April 2020 at 11:59pm. Note: The event MUST have been completed between 4-5 April 2020. The extra time is merely to give you time to upload the screenshot.
