Event description

Join us for a very special Yagya performed by Indian pundit Sudheer.

A yagya (also spelled yajna or yagna) is a Vedic ritual of offering and devotion, often performed with a sacred fire. The term yagya comes from the Sanskrit root "yaj," which means "to worship," "to sacrifice," or "to offer."

Key Elements of a Yagya:

  • Fire Ritual: The central element of a yagya is a fire (Agni) lit in a specially prepared fire pit. Offerings such as ghee (clarified butter), grains, herbs, and wood are made into the fire.
  • Mantras: Sacred chants or mantras are recited during the ritual. These mantras are considered to have spiritual power and are often addressed to various deities, nature elements, or spiritual goals.
  • Purpose: Yagyas can be performed for various purposes, such as seeking blessings, purification, prosperity, health, peace, or spiritual enlightenment. They are also done as a part of life events like marriages, births, or festivals.
  • Participants: A qualified priest (often called a pandit or purohit) usually conducts the yagya. Sometimes, families or communities participate together, especially for significant events.

Yagyas have a deep spiritual and symbolic significance in the Vedic tradition, representing the connection between the individual and the divine, as well as the cyclical nature of life and energy.

The yagya will last about 2 hours but can vary.

Children invited.
