Event description

Due to the recent escalation in Covid cases, this workshop originally scheduled at the Rawene Centre Birkenhead has been moved online. You are invited to join us for an online version of this workshop at the same time 7pm Monday 21st March 2022.


Children's Autism Foundation presents "Social Communication", a workshop for parents & whanau and any professionals who engage with children and young people on the autism spectrum.  In this workshop you will learn more about how autistic children communicate differently and leave with simple & practical strategies to better support your child or the children you work with.

Topics include:

  • Why is social communication so different for autistic children?
  • How to help children recognise emotions & social behaviour in themselves and others.
  • How to teach & encourage social communication and interaction with others.
  • How to support children with social communication at school, at home and in the community.
  • How to use visuals, charts & apps to support social communication

Plus plenty of time for Q&A at the end of the session.

    Facilitated by Jo Sutton

    Jo is a National Educator at Autism New Zealand. She is proud mum of three children, one of whom is autistic. Jo is passionate about supporting autistic children and their whanau to live their absolute best lives.

    This workshop is FREE for parents/caregivers/whanau thanks to support from the Kaipatiki Local Board.
    Professionals $50 incl GST

    Please note that this workshop is interactive. This means that we invite you to respond to discussion questions, share your experience/opinion, and of course, ask questions of your own!
