The Power of Purpose over Profit (Social Enterprises) | Launceston
Event description
It’s very Tasmanian to support small businesses and get excited about those with a purpose that is shared through a story, however verified social enterprises are an international standard that lives out these value every single day that we need to all learn more about and help advocate for.
As a global movement, social enterprises makes up over 3% of the global business community. There are over 10 million social enterprises that generate $2 trillion in revenue and have over 200 million people working within them. As a sector of the economy, this is larger than apparel and telecommunications. However in Tasmania, we are organically supporting ‘good’ enterprises because we know of them rather than understanding the power of this entire space – and in this change, it also helps families and businesses to purchase from these businesses that are independently assessed to be doing the right thing with their profits and then align to world’s best practice.
Across the event, we will be discussing topics including;
- Introduce the principles of social enterprises from the perspectives as a verified People and Planet First social enterprise,
- Showcase some of the social enterprises in the region to create better connections, with a focus on the impact story and how the purchase from social enterprises creates greater impact,
- Inform businesses and families about how they can add the impact of social enterprises into their decision making processes around who they buy from.
