Soil 101 and Preparing for Summer
Description
Build Better Soil for a Thriving Summer Garden
Healthy soil stores water and nutrients, supports strong plant growth, and helps your garden thrive through summer. If you have invested time and money in your garden only to watch plants struggle, the soil may be the issue. Even well-chosen plants cannot flourish in unsuitable soil.
Join Fiona from the City of Stirling for a free, practical workshop on understanding your soil and improving it to hold more water and grow healthier, more resilient plants.
What You’ll Learn
· The qualities of healthy soil
· How to collect and test a soil sample
· How to recognise different soil types
· How soil pH influences plant health
· How different mulches work and when to use them
Hands-On Demonstrations
Fiona will demonstrate a pH test and two soil-structure tests with the help of volunteers. One test is especially hands-on—and messy—so be ready to put your hand up and get involved.
You will learn how to interpret the results, combine them with practical observations, and choose the next steps for improving your soil before summer.
