Soil Health and Microscopy Workshops- Weekend July
Event description
Soil Health and Microscopy Workshop – Foundations & Masterclass
Join us for a hands-on, eye-opening journey into the hidden world of soil life. These full-day workshops (9:30am–4:00pm) are designed for growers, gardeners, and soil enthusiasts wanting to better understand and work with the biology beneath their feet.
Foundations Day
Learn to confidently use a light compound microscope to observe and identify key soil microbes – including bacteria, fungi, protozoa, and nematodes. We’ll explore their vital roles in soil health and plant vitality, and how to encourage thriving microbial communities in your own soil. You’ll get to practise with your own soil sample, using microscopes and materials we provide.
Masterclass Day
We’ll begin with a quick review of microscope use and microbe ID, then move deeper into identification techniques. The heart of the day is learning to carry out a Qualitative Soil Microbial Assessment – working in groups and individually to assess soil samples. We’ll then turn to remediation strategies, brainstorming and planning ways to support soil biology based on what we find.
Both days are practical, supportive, and full of real-world application. Microscopes and all consumables are provided. Please bring your own lunch. A follow-up Zoom Q&A session (30–60 mins) is included, giving you time to consolidate and ask questions after you’ve had time to practise.
A MasterClass Only Day is available to those who have completed the Foundation Class with us. Please contact us for access code to tickets.
