Soil Pit Event
Event description
Join us in the paddock on Thursday the 9th of Oct from 8:30am-3:30pm for a hands-on look beneath the soil surface, presented by leading soil advisors Ed Scott and Michael Eyres. Using 1.5 m deep soil pits, we’ll explore soil layers and how they influence plant production.
The day will commence at Maroona Recreation Reserve before travelling by bus to 2 soil pits in Tatyoon and Streatham. We'll conclude back at Maroona Recreation Reserve at 3:30pm, with morning tea and lunch provided throughout the day.

8:30 - 9am Arrival, registration and cuppa

9:00 - 11:00am | Indoors - Setting the Scene
Introducing key soil principles that really matter on-farm, explained in a straightforward way for practical application.
11:00 am - 3:00pm | In the Paddock - Digging Deeper
Travel by bus to on-farm soil pits and see what’s happening through the whole soil profile. Learn how soil function at depth can affect plant production.

*Note: Please wear weather appropriate clothing and bring your own drink bottle for the day.
The two 1.5m deep soil pits will expose soil horizons and samples will be collected through the layers for assessment and laboratory testing across the top 3 soil horizons. Data collected on the day will be comprehensively written up in an easy-to-understand format and sent out to attendees after the soil pit event.
