Solstice Gathering: A Creative Encounter with Jewish Text
Event description
June 20th marks the summer solstice - the longest day of the year! Ancient agricultural societies, like the Israelites, were keenly aware of seasonal change. What did they think about “heaven” and the sun’s place in it? Talmud tells us that there are no less than seven heavens.
Combining text study and art making, we will explore the seven heavens using the Jewish Studio Process - a unique methodology combining practices from the field of art therapy with a reimagined approach to Jewish learning and spirituality. The session will include text study, discussion, art making and journal writing. No artistic talent needed. The goal isn’t to create a finished piece of art, but to use our creativity to explore Jewish sacred text.
Josh Conescu has been a Jewish educator in the Boston area for the past 25 years. He has worked in day schools, supplemental programs and summer camps. He is particularly drawn to the stories of the TaNaKh. Josh has been a certified trainer in The Jewish Studio Process for the past several years.
