    Event description

     * FREE event for Members *

Bookings extended until 4pm Tuesday 8 August

The world of wine has seen a significant increase in the popularity of organic farming and production over the past two decades, both in Australia and overseas.

This rise in interest is being driven equally by consumers – looking for cleaner, ‘greener’ alternatives to conventionally farmed wines – and the viticulturalists and winemakers themselves. Some are motivated by the beneficial environmental follow-on effects of organic wine production, while others see marked improvements in the quality and consistency of what they are producing.

Yet, while finding organic wines on a wine list or in retail has never been easier, confusion still prevails about what the label ‘organic’ really means:

As a natural product isn’t wine already organic?
       What about biodynamic wine?
Is organic wine the same as natural wine?
Does the wine need to be organically certified to be called organic?
If the grapes are organically grown, doesn’t that mean that the wine is organic as well?

With so many questions about the how, why and wherefores surrounding organic wine, join our Sommeliers Australia hosts and expert panel – Tim Shand (chief winemaker) and Tom Kline (Market Development Manager) from organically certified Voyager Estate – as they taste high quality organically farmed Chardonnay and Cabernet wines from around the world and deep dive into organic viticulture, its relationship to quality and the environment, and discuss “Organics – why the fuss?
