Event description

CHRISTINE JANE launches SONGS FOR BLEEDING HEARTS

With a voice that evokes the aches of another world and soothes the most savage beasts, Christine Jane’s performances are not to be missed.

Her unique sound is described as ‘cinematic blues’. Infusing stories from her deeply layered book of memories with her love of cinema score, blues, folk, and country, she walks the line between modern and romantic, traditional and rebellious.

Following on from her acclaimed alt-country LP HEADMILES, and her debut EP SINNERS COME AND GO, she invites you to be transported by the quirky darkness of her sophomore full length record SONGS FOR BLEEDING HEARTS, as she emerges from her post-pandemic cocoon. Cj will be joined in Meanjin by internationally renowned guitarist Sam Rollings, and Northern Rivers NSW songstress Heirloome, who will create a magical musical alchemy on stage in an intimate setting. Heirloome recently birthed an EP titled CYCLES and she will open the night with a few songs from this breathtaking release.

Get a taste of Christine Jane's ONGS FOR BLEEDING HEARTS through the three singles released so far, as well as lockdown livestream recordings here.

Support: Miss Elm

With A Debut EP release in the Midst of a pandemic, The Shape of Light, followed by popular singles  Love Inside and Houdini, seeing Miss Elm featured on the England and Ireland Radio Airwaves, Miss Elm has created a steadily growing fan base with a powerful live performance to match. Fiercely entering the new world with a ukulele (or two) in one hand, and a loop pedal in the other, Miss Elm’s music is a whirlwind journey from angst to surrender. With diverse use of the Ukulele, layered vocals and heart-led lyrics, Miss Elm gives a sense of grace that is hard to look away from.  It’s as though she’s put you in a trance from which you’ll have no desire to take flight from.

Some liken her sound to London Grammar, Vera Blue and Aurora with angelic vocals and powerful lyrics to match.

Her latest track Space Dust was released June 15th worldwide, a fun jazzy collaboration with co-writer Life is a Myth written about quantum physics and the unknown.

This singer-songwriter continues to establish her penchant for crafting truly immersive and endearing gems of sound. If you’re not already listening to this artist, we strongly recommend you change that. – HAPPY MAG

Ummm Hello, I don’t think I have heard Ukulele songs sound this cool! Miss Elm you’re a game changer and the complexity that you bring to your music is noted and loved. The folk-noir, twisted vibe is also great. - Nkechi Anele – Triple J 'Roots and All'

Support: Heirloome

From their misty mountaintop home, Heirloome makes music that is simultaneously fantastical, whimsical and vulnerable. It's enchanting, while being heart achingly honest - tales of grief, love, nature and magic set to shimmering chamber pop & folktronica.

Their debut EP 'Cycles', written after the loss of their younger brother, was released in 2022 via a 'forest funeral' - an interactive online experience that saw people around the world connect as a community through ritual, song and art-making.

Above all, it is this spirit of connection that Heirloome brings to every live performance - whether accompanied by their harp & piano, or their voice alone.
