Event description

World Premiere

Step into Sonik Ekologies, an intimate listening room curated by Liquid Architecture.

Featuring three newly-commissioned sound works by Markus Rumbino (Papua), Rani Jambak (Sumatra) and Isobel D’Cruz Barnes (Australia/Malaysia), this space invites you to explore the hidden stories of sound and place – from the hum of urban centres to the tranquility of remote natural environments, and the sonic stories of young motherhood across South-East Asia.

Sonik Ekologies is a 30 minute listening experience that occurs on the hour.

Each listening session opens with the gentle ritual of sipping a traditional Javanese Jamu herbal drink, known for its immune boosting and grounding properties.

Audiences are encouraged to take off their shoes, leaving behind the outside world as they step into a carefully prepared, intimate space. Listeners can fully sink in, creating a moment for stillness. The session unfolds with sounds from distinguished composers from Southeast Asia, whose commissioned works guide listeners on a unique auditory journey, equal parts cultural heritage with experimental soundscapes.
