Soul From St. Louis

Leonard Wine Company is proud to present this group of five top soul musicians from our country’s historic roots music city of St. Louis, MO: Royce Martin, Chris Shepherd, Mike Hamilton, Hunter Hamilton, Alex Hamilton.   

Come enjoy this rare review and feel the original rhythms of our country. You’ll walk away with a far deeper understanding of the progression of our country’s soulful rhythm as it moved throughout the 20th century from ragtime piano music, into blues, and ultimately rock and roll.  

It is an honor for these musicians to travel out west to The Back Room to play on Sam’s Steinway and within an exceptional acoustic space at this world class listening room. 

The first set of this soul review will be a performance by ragtime pianist Royce Martin. Royce was the historian at St. Louis’ Scott Joplin House and regularly offers the highest level ragtime performances in both NYC and STL, and he scores films as well. Royce is passionate about demonstrating how early 1900s ragtime performers shared similarities to like-minded impressionist pianists, such as Debussy. Synergy and progression is the thought here. 

The second set will feature 30 year tenured bluesmen Chris Shepherd and Mike Hamilton, who offer the slower, thick rhythms of the Mississippi River, showing blues with a feeling, the classic demonstration of what the St. Louis blues give. Chris Shepherd tours internationally and has opened for Robert Cray. 

The final set will bring you soulful rock & roll with an acoustic duo performance by harmonizing brothers, Hunter Hamilton and Alex Hamilton. These boys show us that rock & roll came out of the blues and lyrical thought.   

Tickets are $20 general admission. Children under 12 are free. Advance tickets are available here, or if the show is not sold out, you may purchase your tickets at the door before the show.

Doors open one half hour before show time. We accept cash or Venmo only at the door.
