Soul of Chinatown walking tour
Event description
From the first known Chinese settler arriving in 1818 to now more than half a million people of Chinese heritage living in Sydney in 2024, did you know when you walk through Sydney’s Chinatown, you’re following the footsteps of more than 200 years’ of Chinese-Australian history? Join Soul of Chinatown on a walking tour of Chinatown, where you’ll hear about the first Chinese-Australians who established the original Chinatown at The Rocks, before it moved to the area near Capitol Square and then onto the present day Dixon Street.
Some of the iconic locations you’ll visit include Campbell St, the upcoming Museum of Chinese in Australia, the Dixon St gates, Sussex St and many more.
The tour will be approximately 90 minutes and include a complimentary drink.
100% of all proceeds go to Soul of Chinatown’s Rice Fund, a charity initiative that gives back to elderly Chinese-Australians and other disadvantaged groups.
Note: This is a walking tour that covers a few kilometres, so please wear walking shoes and drinking water.

Soul of Chinatown is a community group that preserves the culture, history and tradition of Sydney’s Chinatown and its community, but also looks to the future. Founded by Hayden Wong, Kevin Cheng and Peter Wong in 2021, Soul of Chinatown aims to inspire and foster positive change in Chinatown through advocacy, community and events.
