SoulScape: A Mindful Art Mini-Retreat
Event description
We’ll approach drawing, painting, and mark-making with a beginner’s mind, regardless of how long you’ve been making art. Give your inner critic some time off and apply mindfulness principles to the creative process. Get grounded in your body, tune into your senses, connect with your breath, and approach mark-making unhurriedly, free from attachments to outcome. Explore what it’s like to find joy in creating, free from judgment, or any pressure to be perfect.
We’ll take our time, going slowly and intentionally to savor the pleasure and wonder of creating original pieces. We’ll draw in the studio and outdoors. We’ll respond to natural elements, poetry, and our own breath as prompts. We’ll practice self-care by nourishing the creative spirit, and community care by encouraging one another to take creative risks. Taking time to build your capacity to be creative, take risks, and appreciate beauty is not frivolous; these are vital skills to hone as we navigate an increasingly uncertain future.
Dallas (she/they) is a yoga instructor, interfaith chaplain, teaching artist, and social justice organizer. She is especially interested in the healing and spiritual aspects of creating, especially in community. They are devoted to creating inclusive and radically welcoming spaces for self-exploration and expression, believing this to be an important spiritual practice and practical form of resistance to stigmatization and oppression.Â
