About the Artist
Beetle Miyela is a multidisciplinary sound and performance artist currently based in Magandjin, Brisbane. Her practice draws from her cultural heritage, descending from Anglo-Celtic, Scandinavian and Maltese bloodlines, whilst simultaneously connecting to the innate oneness of Mother Earth. Her aim is to use ritualistic, somatic performance as an offering to bridge the imaginary and the reality. Miyela's work focuses on creating places of quiet in order to explore the healing forces of sound and movement. She offers safe, immersive and creative spaces for audiences to rest and reconnect with themselves.
Miyela has been working and training in the performing arts for the past 5 years, completing a Bachelor of Creative Industries (distinction), majoring in Drama and Performance, 2023. She brings experience ranging across acting, sacred soundscapes and Japanese Butoh Dance. Her ambition is to cultivate performances for community and individuals to experience the power of vulnerability. In 2024, Miyela completed an artist residency program with Le Huit, in Southern France and a two month Butoh residency with Motoya Kondo, Nagoya, Japan.
