Event description

Sound Sorcery - jazz magick for all genders, colour & abilities

The Sound Sorcery Team (supported by Creative Australia, City of Sydney, and Heaps Normal)
are proud to present:

*Sound Sorcery 2025* @ The Bearded Tit, Redfern

(a women and trans-led project of 8 x fortnightly jams at The Bearded Tit starting January 2025).

Do you travel in a body that is continuously silenced, excluded, and overlooked in live music spaces?

Jazz bores slowing your broom down?

Is the spice you bring to a witch's brew too strong for the patriarchal palette?

Does music always have to be stripped of its magick in order to be consumable?

To break the hex we’re starting at the place where voices can be heard for the first time, and connections can be conjured: The Jam.

We’re brewing up a concoction with the following ingredients:

  • killer house band of women and gender diverse mofos
  • featured artists from diverse backgrounds
  • Wheelchair accessible queer venue
  • Vibes, vibes, vibes

Instead of stifling your vulnerability, squandering confidence, and indulging in toxic competition, why not help us co-create a space where we celebrate each other's uniqueness.

About our feature artist for the evening ~ Sherene ~

Do not let Sherene’s raw and untamed talent deceive you. She learned from the masters- transcribing and channeling the likes of Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday and Anita O'Day. Her effortless charisma and playful improvisation captivates the audience as she slides through soulful ballads and upbeat swing, stamping her fresh style onto even well-worn jazz standards. She currently sings with the jazz manouche ensemble Coucou Zazous inspired by her love of the vibrant 1930s Parisian scene.

Sound Sorcery reveals one of jazz’s best kept secrets and sirens of swing: Sherene.
