This programme features Concertante from Claude Bolling’s Suite for Cello and Jazz Piano Trio, Libertango by Astor Piazzolla, Limestone & Felt by GRAMMY-winning American composer Caroline Shaw, and other musical gems. 



Hannah Kagawa is a percussionist based in Christchurch. She is currently Principal Percussionist of the Christchurch Youth Orchestra, and has also been part of orchestras such as the NZSO National Youth Orchestra and Canterbury Philharmonia. She has also performed in a wide range of styles as a chamber musician, including jazz ensembles, funk bands, and percussion ensembles. She obtained her ATCL diploma from Trinity College London in 2023 and this year, she was awarded the Leigh and Pownall Scholarship for Music and has begun her studies with Dr. Justin DeHart at the University of Canterbury.

At the age of 15, Ingrid Kosaka was selected as a soloist for the NZSO Young Soloists Showcase, leading to a performance as a soloist with the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra conducted by James Judd. In 2021, she was invited as a guest soloist for a concert tour with the Baroque Music Community and Educational Trust of New Zealand, performing Vivaldi’s concerto for two cellos with Tomas Hurnik. She is active as a versatile chamber musician and soloist, and currently in her final year of study at Christchurch Girls’ High School in Christchurch.

Rakuto Kurano is a multi award-winning performer and composer, currently based in Christchurch. A versatile multi-instrumentalist; he is the only musician that has professionally toured around New Zealand performing on violin, viola, baroque violin, baroque viola, piano, and harpsichord. He has extensive experience performing compositions by living composers, often being invited as a violinist, violist, & pianist at international festivals such as the International Society of Contemporary Music and Asian Composers League festivals. In 2023, he graduated from the University of Canterbury with a Master of Music degree. 

He is currently Artist-in-Residence at the Aspiring Lifestyle Village in Wānaka, and Artistic Director of the Magic Carpet Music Trust.
