This two-part session will start with exploring how to determine and raise the best-suited type of impact capital for your impact venture or social enterprise. This session is for enterprises at both early and growth stages, interested in the process of fund raising and investment readiness

PART 1:  Will be hosted by Impact Seed and StartSomeGood Founder Tom Dawkins to discuss funding options and how to determine the most appropriate source of capital for your enterprise. PART 2: In the discussion, Sefa CEO Hanna Ebeling and co-founder of social enterprise Kardan, Dwayne Rowland will share insights on investment readiness, and what investors are looking for when impact investing. Dwayne Rowland will join to share his story of gaining investment for his social enterprise. Impact Seed partners with Sefa to support impact-driven ventures and organisations, and in 2020, Impact Seed supported Kardan with its first impact investment raise in collaboration with Sefa, tailoring a financing package to support Kardan' rapid growth, and working with Kardan to develop internal business capacity and capability.

About the presenters

Hanna Ebeling, CEO of Sefa (Social Enterprise Finance Australia)

Hanna has done far too much to cram into this bio — perhaps it’s her German efficiency. From traditional banking with HSBC to impact investment in the Philippines, Hanna brings a global practice lens to Sefa as Chief Executive Officer. She is on the board of Woodville Alliance, and works with the Prime Minister’s Community Business Partnership to improve collaboration between government, private sector, and philanthropy. At home you’ll find her preparing dehydrated meals for her next bushwalk or studying for her Australian citizenship test.

Tom Dawkins, CEO and Co Founder of StartSomeGood 

Tom is a leader in the social entrepreneurship ecosystem.  StartSomeGood, which supports social entrepreneurs, has raised more than $11 Million globally, with one of the highest success rates in crowdfunding.

Tom was previously the founder and CEO of Vibewire, the first Social Media Director at Ashoka, a global NGO fostering social entrepreneurship based in Washington DC, and co-founded the Changemakers Festival with The Australian Centre for Social Innovation (TACSI) in 2013.

Tom has been recognised with awards and Fellowships from the World Summit Youth Awards, International Youth Foundation, Nexus Summit, Future Summit and the Australian and New Zealand Internet Awards.

Dwayne Rowland, Founder & Managing Director of Kardan Australia, and Loop Global

Kardan is a Western Australian employment based social enterprise and registered Aboriginal construction & maintenance business providing training and jobs for people suffering vulnerability and disadvantaged both directly and through its social procurement focused sub-contracting with major clients across State government and corporates.

LOOP is an jobs-based circular economy social enterprise which seeks to create training and employment opportunities for disadvantaged Australians by reprocessing used corporate uniforms from organisations such as Virgin Airlines, Water Corp and WA Police.

In 2020, Impact Seed supported Kardan with its first impact investment raise in collaboration with Sefa, tailoring a $1.5m financing package to support Kardan' rapid growth, and working with Kardan to develop internal business capacity and capability.
