Event description

Join us to celebrate the final days of Sparks in the Dark with this fun and purposeful hands-on workshop. Learn how to embroider with local expert in the beautiful Afghan style, Shokira Jan.

Absolutely no experience needed, all materials provided, and with Afghan sweets and saffron tea to enjoy with new friends – there isn't a better way to spend a winter afternoon!

You'll work together to produce a collaborative embroidery to send back to the Afghan Sparks artists as a gesture of solidarity. This will be an affirming, gentle, and purposeful workshop to remember.

Open to limited numbers so book in quick!

About Sparks in the Dark

Held on the anniversary of four years (208 weeks) since the Taliban started working to erase women from Afghan society, this exhibition defiantly showcases 208 pieces of embroidered handkerchiefs from Afghan women. It shares their message to the world: they refuse to be silenced.

Sparks in the Dark combines Afghan women’s embroidered artworks with new works by Mursal Azizi and Kat Rae, emerging Australian artists also touched by the ongoing effects of the Afghanistan war.
