Meeting for five weeks, starting on Tuesday November 10th & going until December 8th, join us on a journey of writing and connection in the basement at Echo & Bounce. Facilitated by spoken word artist & mental health advocate Amber @ambacious and poet Nikita Kostaschuk of SpeakEasy Poetry. This series is back by popular demand, and we can't wait to bring a marvellous group of budding writers together once more.
Come primarily to connect with other beautiful humans, learn a bit about poetry and leave with friends who you'll see again without having to do any of the heavy lifting of logistics or making plans. All you need to do is show up, whether you’re new to writing or been writing for years, come bask in the warmth of collective creativity. At the end of the journey you will leave with a little self-made souvenir to carry with you, to remind you that you are always connected.
Echo & Bounce will have their kitchen open from 6pm selling delicious, hearty ramen, as well as their cafe serving warm drinks until 8pm. We have adjusted our start & finish times to allow for more time spent basking in the glorious eats of echo&bounce's cafe team. Come along early and get to know your fellow participants over a meal before the workshops.
This round of workshops, we really get to slow down & take each prompt as it comes. Our three week workshop offering was wonderful, and we were packing in activities! This edition of our workshops will allow more breathing room for a poem to mature. Ideally, each participant will be working on a poem that evolves out of prompts from rough concept to edited work, ready to be shared towards the end of the series.
Ticketing:
5 Workshop Package (recommended) $100+bf
Single Workshop $25 +bf
This workshop is designed as a series, building on the previous workshop over the five weeks. While you're welcome to come along to singular workshops, there might be details from previous weeks that arise - please feel free to reach out for more clarity or ask on the night!
*It’s important to us that this event is accessible so if you’d like to attend but don’t have access to the resources at the moment, please, please get in touch, we have some options for free and low cost tickets! Please reach out for individualised ticketing arrangements & always let us know if there are any other needs to make this event fiscally accessible to you.
Itinerary:
Week 1 - Poetry and movement; we will get out of our heads and into our bodies as we learn about our own processes. Get to know our fellows who we’ll be journeying with over the next 5 weeks. Learn the basics of poetry.
Week 2 - The group will continue to develop our process and deepen our connections. Write to various prompts, playing with different styles of poems and learn about poetry performance. We will explore the difference between spoken word and poetry? All in preparation for sharing a poem with the group in week 4.
Week 3 - This week we will focus on climate grief prompts as we continue to develop our process, connect with our fellows and deepen our understanding of different poetry styles. All in preparation for sharing a poem with the group in week 4.
Week 4 - Consolidate our learnings over the previous 3 weeks and have an opportunity to share what you’ve been working on in a relaxed, supportive and fun environment (optional).
Week 5 - Finish off our time together with a hands on activity, leaving you with a souvenir to take home or gift to a loved one. Found poetry workshop; get crafty with poetry
