Event description
The SPEAQ Forum is back with a focus on supporting workers across Queensland to end men's violence against women through effective DFV Intervention Programs and beyond.
About the Forum
The SPEAQ Forum is our key professional development event, bringing the sector together to connect, inform, educate, and strengthen the passion that drives this work. The event has been held annually since 2009, paused in 2019 and 2020 only due to resource constraints and the impact of COVID. This year, the SPEAQ Forum returns as a 2 day event and is our first Forum online.
Since the outbreak of COVID-19, emerging data and reports have shown that all types of violence against women and girls, particularly domestic violence, has intensified - (UN Women). Lots has changed in how we do our work as a result of COVID, and the need has increased - but the fundamentals remain the same. This event provides space to strengthen the fundamentals of our intervention work with men who use domestic and family violence, as well as looking at new developments, innovations and adapting to COVID realities.
Why online?
The current situation with COVID made our plans for a face to face event in Cairns no longer viable. We're turning this into an opportunity to connect with more participants from all over Queensland and further afield, particularly those in regional areas, making it a more inclusive event for all.
Going online also saves everyone money as there are significantly less costs associated with running a professional online Forum than a face to face one, and no travel costs.
Thank you for being with us as we adapt to changing circumstances. We are working creatively to deliver an engaging online Forum with lots of interactive activities and collaborative processes to get the most out of this networking and PD opportunity.
What does it cover?
The SPEAQ Forum 2021: Effectiveness – Intervention Programs and Beyond will provide:
- professional development facilitated by people with diverse and deep experience in the field.
- a chance to share practice wisdom and experiences with other practitioners
- opportunity to develop practice ideas for intervention work in multiple contexts, with a special focus on Men's DFV Intervention Programs.
- opportunity to hear about new developments in the field and how services are dealing with a changing operating environment
- a unique networking opportunity, bringing people together from within our specialist field, in Queensland and beyond
- an opportunity to further develop our practitioners and services network
- There will be polls, Q&A’s and chatbursts to keep things interesting!
- We'll be making extensive use of breakout rooms and processes to encourage networking and interaction
- We'll be using a range of other online tools to allow collaboration, gather opinions, and capture great ideas and discussions
Programme
SPEAQ Forum 2021 presents a diverse and interesting programme that addresses core business for Men's DFV Intervention Programs and provides something of value for anyone involved in intervention work with men who use DFV and the support of affected family members. The Organising Committee has incorporated as much as possible of the many suggestions provided by members, the presentations for which EOIs have been received, along with our own careful consideration of sector needs and what makes for a good Forum. Our intention has been to craft an event that meets the needs of SPEAQ members and provides something of value for all attendees.
