We are a diverse, vibrant and dedicated group of young leaders committed to preserving and promoting our rich Māori heritage through waiata, haka and traditional performing arts.
This cultural exchange will allow us to showcase our cultural traditions on an international stage. We can learn and share with the Hawaiian community, fostering mutual respect, understanding and celebration between our cultures.
Fundraising will enable us to make the most of this opportunity which will help us to feel empowered and learn and grow through invaluable experiences that will enrich our cultural and personal development.
The reason we have chosen a special screening of Moana 2 to help our kura (school) fundraise, is because many of us who are a part of Tama Tū Tama Ora, are students connect who connect with the cultures expressed and celebrated in this movie. We are a diverse group of students who belong to the many beautiful and rich cultures of the Pacific: Māori, Cook Island, Fijian, Tongan, Samoan and more.
Seeing ourselves and our cultures on a world-wide stage, in a film such as Moana 2, lifts our mana through self-empowerment and celebration of our cultures.
