Event description

Join us for a speed briefing on the Kaldor Centre's new policy brief, ‘Ensuring Protection in Humanitarian Emergencies: A framework for Australia’.

Professor Jane McAdam AO, one of the policy brief authors, will outline the context, key issues and recommendations of this topical report. She will explain why Australia needs a new emergency visa to respond to humanitarian crises, which she and her co-author, Dr Regina Jefferies, propose as part of a broader emergency response framework. Having a framework that could be activated in a crisis would enable a more predictable, streamlined and effective response.

In the context of people fleeing the war in Gaza, and reports that the government is considering creating a new emergency visa, this policy brief has vital importance for individuals, policymakers and advocates across the sector.

That’s why we are offering a special lunchtime webinar, where you can quickly get an understanding of the evidence behind our proposals for a better approach – for all concerned. The audience will also have a chance to ask questions.
