Spotlight on Storytelling: Caregiving, Media, and Katrina Love Prescott
Description
How can screenwriting transform the way society values family caregivers?
This National Family Caregivers Month, join award-winning advocates Katrina Love Prescott (filmmaker) and Dr. Vivian Stamatopoulos (Ontario Tech associate professor and caregiver researcher) for a powerful virtual panel on the intersection of media, research, and advocacy. Centered around Prescott’s acclaimed scripted short series, this discussion pulls back the curtain on translating the complex realities of unpaid caregiving to the screen—and why authentic storytelling is essential to driving systemic change.
'Things Not to Say to a Caregiver' is a comedic web series created by filmmaker and caregiver advocate Katrina Love Prescott and produced by Equal Films and Sunny Media (in partnership with the TELUS Fund and Stories for Caregivers). Starring Denise Jones as the sharp-tongued "Care-y Godmother," the show debuted its pilot in October 2024, launched Season 1 in May 2025, and this event will spotlight the newly released Season 2 (August 2026) following Season 1's success.
