Event description
An inspiring Conversation with Dr Martin Goldberg, curator of the latest South Australian Museum exhibition, Treasures of the Viking Age: The Galloway Hoard (Includes exhibition entry).
The South Australian Museum is pleased to start the 2025 Sprigg Salon series with a special presentation on the latest exhibition. Join international guest and Principal Curator of Medieval Archaeology and History from National Museums Scotland, Dr Martin Goldberg, as he takes you deeper into the Galloway Hoard.
In conversation with South Australian Museum's Director of collections and research, Adam Moriarty, Dr Goldberg will expand on the relevance of each of the precious objects, their excavation, and the understanding that has been gained from over a decade of research into the find. Described as “…the richest and most varied collection of precious and exotic objects surviving from Viking-age Britain and Ireland.” (Pp. 8, The Galloway Hoard: Viking-age treasure, 2021) This event will give unique insight into one of the most significant Viking-age hoards ever found in the British Isles and is an event not to be missed.
