Event description

Join us for an engaging and transformative webinar series on culturally responsive family engagement! Strong family partnerships are key to student success, particularly for students of color with disabilities and those from historically underserved communities. As educators, embracing culturally responsive practices allows us to honor and integrate students’ diverse backgrounds into the learning process while recognizing families as invaluable partners in education.

These sessions will equip you with practical strategies to foster meaningful relationships with families, strengthening collaboration between home, school, and community. By deepening your understanding of diverse family dynamics and the factors that influence engagement, you’ll gain the tools to create inclusive learning environments that empower students to thrive.

Don’t miss this opportunity to build connections, enhance student achievement, and make a lasting impact!

Session 1 - March 20, 2025  Presented by Joy Banks, Ph.D.

  • Making Meaningful Connections: Facilitating School-wide and Community-based Family Engagement with Culturally Diverse Families
    • Special educators are uniquely positioned to enhance school-wide family engagement strategies. The focus of this practitioner-based presentation is to provide school personnel with planning tools to implement culturally sustaining family-engagement for families of children with disabilities.

Session 2 - March 27, 2025  Presented by Mary Ruth Coleman, Ph.D

  • Family Engagement through Science to Support Academic Success
    • High interest, interactive science activities are the foundation for connecting school and home supports for elementary students. This session will share one model for family engagement using science take-home activities to promote academic dialogues and discovery. Concrete examples and practical strategies for building academic bridges between the home and the school will be explored because success takes a team.

Session 3 - April 3, 2025  Presented by Cathy Kea, Ph.D.

  • Developing Relationship-Rich Partnerships with Culturally and Linguistically Diverse Families to Improve Students’ Long-Term Life Outcomes
    • This presentation provides a pragmatic illustration of how school leadership can build relationship-rich partnerships with families using the four fundamental high-impact family and community engagement strategies (relationships and trust, communication, culture and diversity, and collaboration and partnerships).  Actionable steps and examples are offered for facilitating effective collaboration with culturally and linguistically diverse families and those of students with special needs to improve student learning outcomes.
