Spring Community Sing! Heritage community singing at Rusten House

Spring Community Sing! is a fun-filled participatory event for the whole community.

The singing will take place in the gently sloping gardens at the rear of historic Rusten House Arts Centre in Queanbeyan. The event is hosted by the new arts and wellbeing charity The Cordialis Foundation, and will act as its Queanbeyan launch - so come and join the celebration!

Dr Georgia Pike-Rowney, Queanbeyan resident, researcher and singer, will lead the community in spring-themed songs specifically chosen for their singability by a wide range of participants, including many old favourites. Accompanied by Dr Susan West on piano, and supported by Cordialis volunteers, the community will be encouraged to sing along, with lyric sheets made available on the day.

Simply bring a picnic blanket or some camp chairs and your singing voices - no rehearsal, previous knowledge, or singing experience is required! Just come along and join in!

This event is being held in conjunction with the sculpture exhibition 'NEXUS...the common piano' by Martin Rowney, exploring themes of music and community, which will be on display in the Rusten House Fever Ward Gallery. Come early to hear Martin's artist's talk at 2pm inside the gallery, then stick around for the singing!

• Registration: registration is encouraged to help us in planning the event.

• Donations: donations are not required, but encouraged and are tax deductible. Donations help Cordialis to run more events such as this for our communities.

• What to bring: no seating will be provided, so please bring a picnic blanket or camp chairs. Feel free to bring a picnic, but please note, this is an alcohol-free event designed for people of all ages.

• Parking: There is limited car parking on site, which includes one accessible parking bay, which is approximately 12 metres from the main door. There is ample street parking available on Collett Street during weekends.

• Accessibility: For visitors with mobility requirements, there are gentle slopes but no stairs to navigate in the rear garden, and ramps are provided for entering the gallery at the main entrance, and an accessible toilet is available inside the building. If you have any other specific access requirements, please contact the Rusten House team on 6285 6356.

• Wet weather: in the case of wet weather, the event will shift to the next day, on Sunday 18 October, 3-4pm. Registrants will be notified early on the day if the wet-weather plan will be activated.
