For over 30 years, Northey Street has been a hub for sustainability, education, and community connection. In recent years, we’ve been particularly focused on strengthening our collaboration with First Nations people. We’ve hosted workshops, events, and education programs led by First Nations presenters, received a grant to support the development of the Growing on Country online resource and provided scholarships to First Nations participants on our permaculture education programs. We are also working together with Yuggera and Turrbal people to plant more native species here on the farm. These plants will provide a resource for them to harvest from, in a way that honours cultural knowledge and connection to the land. Another new area of work has been to support various gardening projects, including community gardens, as well as gardens in schools and early learning centres. We have recently been providing support with design and implementation, as well as governance at three different gardens in Brisbane. These initiatives are vital for building food security and resilience in South East Queensland, and we hope to expand this work to create a more sustainable future for our communities. A key focus for us in the coming years is making the farm more accessible for everyone. We’re working on creating accessible pathways and other design features that ensure everyone, regardless of ability, can fully enjoy and participate in the farm’s activities. Every donation, big or small, helps us continue our work and ensures we can create lasting change. Thank you!
