Spring Wildflowers in Chiltern-Mt Pilot National Park - Grade 2 (Easy)

The Warby Range Bushwalkers invites you to join them on a Spring Wildflower walk on White Box Walking Track, Chiltern-Mt Pilot National Park.  This walk is part of the Try Bushwalking Month, celebrating the 90th Anniversary of Bushwalking Victoria, the peak body representing 60+ bushwalking clubs across Victoria. 

Previously a mining area there are mullock heaps and the Golden Bar Open-Cut Mine.  Vegetation includes Blakely’s Redgum, Mugga Ironbark, Red Stringybark, Apple Box, White Box, Red Box.  Daphne Heath, Hibbertias, Parrot Peas and in Spring wildflowers.  The Chiltern-Mt Pilot NP is known for the many birds that are attracted to the forest including the rare Regent Honeyeater.

DISTANCE:  8.5k Loop walk that will take approximately 3 hours

WHO IS THIS WALK FOR?   Suitable for first time bushwalkers, an easy loop walk on bush tracks with gentle ascending and descending.   

CHILDREN AND PETS:  This walk is for adults 18 years and over, and due to the nature of the walk, we ask you to leave dogs and other pets at home.  Please contact the club directly to inquire about service animals, and any family or pet friendly walks.  

AWT GRADE 2 (Easy) -No bushwalking experience required.  A hardened or compacted surface which may have gentle hill sections or occasional steps.  AWT Grade information. 

PACE: The pace will be determined by the attendees, generally around 3 to 4 kph.  There are interest points along the route and a snack/morning tea break.

TOTAL ASCENT: Starting the walk at an elevation of approx. 250m and reaching a high point of approx. 340m at Hill View before descending back to approx. 250m elevation at the start of the walk.  The track is generally undulating with gentle hills.  

WALK DESCRIPTION: 

An easy loop walk of approximately 8.5 kilometres along bush tracks within a remnant Box-Ironbark Forest.

MEETING POINT: Meeting at Rotary Park, cnr Swan & Evans Sts, Wangaratta at 8.15am for 8.30am departure.  Google maps: https://maps.app.goo.gl/ryxmqg...
We will carpool the 42km from the meeting point to our walk start point at the Honeyeater Picnic Area.

CARPOOLING: We will meet at Rotary Park in Wangaratta, and carpool from there.  Carpool cost $8 per passenger, payable in cash to driver.   

PHONE SIGNAL: Subject to your provider you may or may not have mobile service.

TOILETS: At Rotary Park,Wangaratta (meeting point), at the Honeyeater Picnic Area (start/finish of walk).  No toilet facilities during the walk.  Plenty of bush for a bush pee.
