Square Pegs Film Night - Left Behind

Join Square Pegs Dyslexia Support and Advocacy for a special screening of the powerful documentary Left Behind, a compelling film that shines a light on the educational experiences of children with dyslexia and the families who advocate for them. Based on the story of five determined mothers in New York who set out to create a public school that meets the needs of students with dyslexia, the film raises important questions about equity, inclusion and educational opportunities for neurodivergent learners.

While the documentary is set in the United States, many of the challenges and experiences explored will resonate strongly with Tasmanian families, educators and professionals working with children and young people.

Who should attend?

All parents, educators, allied health professionals and community members are encouraged to attend. Suitable for audiences 15 years and over.

Following the screening, attendees are invited to stay for informal conversation and networking with the Square Pegs team.

About the film

Left Behind (2025) follows five tenacious mothers advocating for better educational opportunities for children with dyslexia. Their journey highlights the barriers many students face and sparks discussion about how schools and communities can better support learners who think differently.

About Square Pegs

Square Pegs Dyslexia Support and Advocacy is a Tasmanian registered charity that began in 2013 when two parents recognised a gap in local information, support and services for dyslexia. Since then, the organisation has grown from a small volunteer group into a statewide organisation with a dedicated team. Square Pegs' mission is to improve recognition, understanding and action so that children with dyslexia and related learning differences feel supported, confident and able to succeed.
