SRP Art Exhibition

You are invited to an Art Exhibition in the Hall on Tuesday, July 28th at 5pm, showcasing the Senior Research Project practicals of four Class 12 students, Archie, Georgia, Laura and Alex. The event itself is being hosted as part of Archie's own Senior Research Project, giving him the opportunity to explore event management as a potential career while giving our community a chance to see the SRP process up close. Read on to hear directly from each student and artist about the journey behind their work.

Archie's Statement: The art exhibition I am hosting will feature three Senior Research Project practicals in addition to my event practical. The artists are exploring intriguing and important topics and ideas through artistic mediums such as painting, photography and digital art. I am hosting this exhibition for my own Senior Research Project to explore event management in a practical aspect as a potential career, and to give the community an insight into the process of a Senior Research Project. Come along to look at some beautiful art made by this year’s Class 12 students and learn more about the Senior Research Projects!

Georgia's Artist Statement: My senior research project looks at the important role that love plays in child development.  It has been mostly research based so far and I have been going into the topics of what love is, child development, attachment theory and what happens if there is an absence of love in childhood and the relationship between trauma and addiction. The relationship between a child and their primary caregiver is such a vital one and heavily influences a child’s attachment style. For my practical my aim is that through my photographs of candid moments between parents and their children, I can show some of these expressions of love and safety. 

Laura's Artist Statement: My SRP is about researching and representing three heath conditions through art. The conditions I have chosen include; the effect of smoking on the lungs, the effect of Parkinson's disease on the brain and the effect of a Tetralogy of Fallot on the heart. To represent these health conditions, my goal is to create a painting of each, and so far, I have one of them complete and the second one is in progress. These three paintings will go to together as a triptych and will have a couple of motifs. The first painting presents a set of lungs, one healthy and flourishing with life and brightly coloured flowers, while the other is blackened, restricted by barbed wire and has withered flowers slowly falling away. They show the difference between a healthy lung, untainted, and a lung exposed to the harsh chemicals of cigarettes, causing it to blacken and shrivel.The second painting presents the brain, front on, and will have flowers spread across it. The flowers will be blooming brightly, however on one half, the flowers will be losing their petals. These will represent the loss of dopamine from the brain that Parkinson’s causes, while the flowers that are not losing their petals will show a typically functioning brain.The third painting has not been started yet, however rough sketches of it have been done up and it will hopefully be started soon.

Alex's Statement: Hello my name is Alexander, and I am writing and publishing a fantasy romance for my Class 12 Senior research project. As such, my work is focused around my book, my art pieces are drawings of my characters, places in the book or events which take place in them. Character will be unnamed unless the piece focuses on them. I have always wanted to give a face to the characters in my book and the places they inhabit and design is one of the key things which inspires me to write and create the things in my novel. I have collated a few pieces I think are to high enough standards to represent my book and my SRP as a whole, I hope you enjoy.
