Description

Join us for an online workshop with Social Reinvestment WA. This is an opportunity for us to get together, pick up new skills, and discuss approaches useful for those working in justice reinvestment, community services, and broader justice reform.

This October, we're talking about power of lived experience storytelling, and how to help facilitate it.

Stories are a powerful, and lived experience perspectives are critical to creating the solutions WA’s justice system desperately needs. There is an important opportunity for us to centre lived experience as we work together to transform our systems. However, it's also essential that this work is done mindfully, and in a way that is safe and empowering for those sharing their stories. In this workshop, SRWA's Advocacy Lead, Ronald Bin Swani will explore the role of lived experience storytelling, and best practice approaches for organisations and other actors interested in partnering with people with lived experience in systems change work.

Lineup

  • Ronald Bin Swani

    Ronald Bin Swani

Ronald is a Baad and Samsep person who grew up between Lombadina Community and Broome, along the coast of the Dampier Peninsula in the Kimberley region. He has many distinctive memories of driving the Cape Leveque road between Broome and Lombadina, a long pindan corrugated road. His childhood was full of adventures where he found what he loves today. His time out in community was crucial towards his love for animals, the land and sea. Ronald is the second eldest of ten children. Being one of the eldest he always wanted to set an example for his younger siblings, but understands that sometimes you don’t always pick the right path – but there is always hope to find it. Ronald leads Social Reinvestment WA's advocacy, looking to end the over-representation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders in the justice system. Through the use of his skills and own lived experience he wants to make change for everyone to live in a better place.
