Corowa - ‘All Hands on Deck’: Disaster Readiness Forum for Community Volunteers
Event description
Be ready to help when it matters most.
Disaster response is a shared effort – emergency services play a vital role, and so does the community. Neighbours looking out for each other. Locals showing up, pitching in, and doing what needs to be done.
We are delivering free, practical workshops across Snowy Valleys, Federation and Greater Hume Councils, that recognise the strength already within our towns and builds on it.
Through practical activities and local knowledge, the workshops will create space for people to connect, share, and strengthen their ability to act safely and confidently in the face of disaster.
Who should attend?
Sporting clubs, landholders, tradies, committee members, business owners, young leaders, long-time locals – anyone with a heart for their community.
What we’ll cover:
Funded by the NSW Reconstruction Authority and developed in partnership with local councils and emergency services, these sessions will cover how spontaneous volunteers can support disaster response safely and effectively.
How community response fits into the broader emergency system
Local risks and how they’re managed
Leadership, safety, and decision-making during crisis
A hands-on scenario activity
Taking care of yourself and others
Federation workshops (Urana & Corowa) include an additional segment on personal preparedness
Lucky door prize: two $50 gift cards at each session.
