Electives

Music as an Expression of Worship (PART1 & PART 2) (Grant Norsworthy - Guest Speaker)
Part 1: Is music important in the life of our Church? Why do we sing? What is its purpose? This elective is designed to benefit all church congregants, although those involved vocally, instrumentally and technically in music within our church should be especially absorbed.
Part 2: What musical, vocal, instrumental and technical choices can we make to more warmly encourage the participation of our congregation in the musical expression of worship? This elective is designed especially with vocalists, instrumentalists and technicians in mind, although other congregants may be interested to attend also.

Worship that’s Attentive to God’s Leading (Adam Cetrangolo)
We read in John 4:24 – “God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in the Spirit and in truth.”  Our times of worship rightly involve careful thought and planning, however also paramount is making space for God’s Spirit to lead.  How can we effectively achieve both?  This workshop will explore this question and provide some practical resources for actively listening to God’s Spirit before, after and during our times of worship.  This workshop will be especially relevant to those who lead from the front as service leaders, worship leaders, band leaders and prayer leaders, furthermore these practices are transferable to your personal devotional life too.

Living a Life of Gratitude (Tavis Beer and Andrea Murray)
A critical aspect to our worship is having a heart of gratitude towards God. This workshop will explore the virtue of gratitude by looking at its biblical foundations, think through some of the challenges we face in practicing gratitude, and look at some ways we can grow at leading a life of gratitude. This elective is for anyone interested strengthening their relationship with God by amplifying gratitude in their life.

Worship beyond Sunday: Being the Church in your Neighborhood (Mike Urwin)
(Not available online) Beginning with some biblical principles, this workshop will explore how serving our neighbouring community expresses worship.  Using practical examples, we will see how serving the community together can benefit others and also enhance our faith and the witness of the church in our area.

Speaking Scripture in our Daily Life (Kane Lach)
Giving voice to the scripture in our own lives is a powerful way to increase our knowledge of God and deepen our worship. It can encourage and strengthen others too as we remind them of who God is, and it's a great way to bring life back into our bible reading if we're finding it a challenge or unmotivating to read it in our heads! This elective is for anyone looking to approach the scripture in a new way, to increase their confidence in reading the bible out loud in a group or at church and to increase their ability to respond to people in need with the bible.
