St Patrick's Michelago Our People Our Church with Kerry Rooney

Join us for a special author talk with Kerry Rooney at the Heritage Library. St Patrick’s Michelago Our People Our Church was published by Kerry Rooney in 2024. It documents the history of a small community’s generosity and hard work in building their churches and first school. In so doing, the book gives an overview of Michelago’s early settlement by Irish immigrants and their descendants. There are many photographs, old and new, of the people and their beautiful and historical churches: the original stone church opened in 1865 and the new church in 1907.

Kerry Rooney is a descendant of one of the Kelly families of Michelago. Her motivation in publishing this book was to share her local history research and the photographs collected by the women of St Patrick’s parish over many decades.

This event is part of the Queanbeyan-Palerang Heritage Festival.
