Event description

Stacked Forms: Build Your Own Sculptural Totem

Introductory Statement about the Class: Create your own modular sculpture by handbuilding a series of stackable ceramic forms. Inspired by totems, cairns, and modernist sculpture, this workshop explores balance, rhythm, and repetition in clay. You'll build several interlocking or nesting forms designed to be assembled vertically after firing—perfect for garden display, mantle pieces, or playful studio decor.

What will be covered in this course?

·  Sketching and planning a modular ceramic sculpture

·  Handbuilding techniques including coiling, pinching, and clay joining

·  Creating interlocking or stable stacking forms

·  Exploring rhythm, balance, and scale in 3D design

By the end of this course students will:

·  Complete a ceramic sculpture made of multiple stackable components, ready for bisque firing

·  Gain confidence using handbuilding techniques like coiling, pinching, and joining clay

·  Develop a deeper knowledge of rhythm, balance, and proportion through exploration

·  Have the option to return for a glaze workshop
