Our afternoon get together will feature talks from:

Bird Counting in preparation for the Aussie Bird Count
Propagation workshop
Come and enjoy freshly made wood fired pizza, marvel at the beautiful native gardens, enjoy a tour by dedicated students and network with the Ballarat Community of Practice.
This will be a ZERO WASTE Event so if you’re curious about how to make that happen at your school, now is your chance.
This event showcases local, meaningful and hands-on sustainability education activities and initiatives. Primary and secondary school teachers, staff and leaders with an interest in sustainability, wellbeing, school food production, STEM and educating outdoors are invited to attend, including State, Catholic and Independent schools.

ResourceSmart Schools is a free, award-winning Victorian Government program. It helps schools embed sustainability across facilities, curriculum and community – while using less resources and saving money.
Participating and active ResourceSmart Schools may be eligible for a reimbursement of some costs associated with attending this event - for more information and to check your school’s eligibility please contact your local RSS Facilitator.

What to expect
Stephen McNeight
Stephen McNeight is the gardening specialist and sustainability coordinator at Wendouree Primary School and 2026 ResourceSmart School Primary Teacher of the Year. He will share his ResourceSmart School experience, including their Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden and CREATE programs. His students will take you on a tour of the school grounds which features native plantings, frog bog, Miyawaki forest and much more.
James McLennan
James McLennan will introduce Farm My School, a groundbreaking model of food education that transforms underutilised land within schools into regenerative market gardens that feed, educate and connect communities. James is a former RSS facilitator and Victorian School Garden Program facilitator whose passion for sustainability is catching.
Aussie Bird Count
With Aussie Bird Count just around the corner, 19-25 October, this is a great opportunity to sharpen your skills and learn more about how your students can get involved by participating in an actual bird count. You don’t need to be a twitcher to be a successful advocate for these winged beauties.
Hands-on workshop
Learn how to propagate your own plants in this hands-on workshop. Build your confidence and support other schools in the region as we work together. You’ll be able to take home some plants and continue the great work at your school. All equipment will be supplied.
