Description

Creswick Theatre Company presents Staged Play Readings on the last Sunday of most months. With an introduction from The Bard in Buninyong and featuring local actors from Creswick Theatre Company and The Bard in Buninyong.

Sunday 25th October at 2pm: Pinter's Son, Jim by Henry Lawson

Directed by Hedley Thomson

Cast: To be advised

Pinter's Son Jim is the only completed full-length play written by the iconic Australian author and bush poet Henry Lawson.

Lawson wrote the play while living in New Zealand around 1893–1894, after it was commissioned by theatrical entrepreneur Bland Holt. However, it was ultimately deemed too unwieldy or difficult to stage at the time. It blends a love story, a detective story, slapstick comedy, and tragedy all into one narrative. The story features some of Lawson’s best-loved recurring outback characters, most notably the irrepressible wanderer Mitchell.

In 2026, CTC committee member Rob Kelty established and shaped a recurring theatre program designed to bring both newly discovered and classic scripts to life. Rather than putting on full-scale, resource-heavy productions, Rob along with The Bard in Buninyong introduced this structured format to allow local actors to perform with scripts in hand and minimal physical blocking. This format provides the community with access to a broader variety of theatrical performance at a very affordable price.

It's not just a play reading, our actors have considered their characters beforehand and add in some stage movement, props and costumes.

Submissions for original works will be considered.
