Description

Live Music, Good Company, and a Cause Worth Showing Up For

There’s something special about turning out for a good cause in person. Not just donating from behind a screen, but actually being there: sharing a room, a drink, and a few songs with fellow Canberrans who care about the same thing you do.

That’s exactly what’s on offer on Sunday 20 September, when ArtSound FM joins forces with NKSSP Canberra (the Nepali Art, Culture and Literature Academy) for a warm, welcoming evening at the Polish White Eagle Club in Turner, all in support of families in Nepal whose lives have been upended by catastrophic flooding.

You may have already heard the news: in late August, flash flooding and landslides tore through communities along the Nepal-China border, destroying homes, roads and livelihoods in a matter of hours. It’s the kind of disaster that’s easy to read about and hard to picture; until you think about it as neighbours losing everything overnight, with children and elderly residents among the most vulnerable.

This is where a bit of Canberra community spirit can genuinely help. The Emergency Action Alliance brings together some of Australia’s most trusted aid organisations to get help where it’s needed most, quickly and efficiently. And every single dollar raised on the night — 100% of event profits — goes straight to their Nepal Flood Disaster Appeal.

A relaxed Sunday evening, done properly

This isn’t a solemn affair. Quite the opposite. Think of it as a proper community get-together: good music, a well-stocked bar, and the chance to catch up with familiar faces while doing something worthwhile.

Two excellent local acts will be keeping the night lively: The Devil and The Bunny and The Daisy Coolective, both known for bringing warmth and energy to a room. The bar will be open all evening, with bar snacks on hand to keep you going.

Whether you come for the music, the cause, or simply a pleasant Sunday evening out, you’ll leave knowing your ticket made a genuine difference to families who need it.
