    Event description

We have a very special line up for the October Starfish performance.

We are very excited to present the musical pairing of the extraordinary Lachlan Mitchell (aka Laneous) and Barney McAll.

They will be performing with the Starfish Rhythm section of Jonathan Zwartz and Hamish Stuart.

Laneous is a multi-disciplinary artist, - a world-class guitarist, vocalist, composer and visual artist.

Originally best known for his Funk/Soul bands 'Kafka' and 'Laneous and the Family Yah', Laneous relocated to Melbourne from Brisbane in 2016 where he collaborated with members of Hiatus Kaiyote for a Strawberry Fields Festival Stage, which the became his debut album (Monstera Deliciosa).

He curated the experimental Pink Dove show for Vivid Sydney in 2014.

Picked up and championed by English DJ and tastemaker Gilles Peterson, Laneous has been a featured Triple J artist and has inspired bands and artists such as Hiatus Kaiyote and Jordan Rakei.

Hiatus lead singer Nai Palm has described Laneous as a musical genius.

We are thrilled Barney McAll is coming up from Melbourne to play.
Barney is a heavyweight on the Australian Jazz Scene, - he is one of our most influential pianists and composers.

He joined Vince Jones' band in the early '90's and quickly became the musical director, co-composer, arranger and producer of at least 4 of Vince's releases from that time. As a side note, both Hamish and Jonathan played with Barney in Vince's band where the three of them formed a strong and enduring musical bond.

Barney then left Australia at the invitation of US saxophonist Gary Bartz, to join Gary's band and make NY his home for the next decade or more, where he played with The Groove Collective, Kurt Rosenwinkel, Fred Wesley and Josh Roseman among others.

He joined Sia's band as Musical director in 2011 after moving back to Australia. He was awarded an Australia Council Fellowship in 2007 and was the 2015 recipient of the prestigious Peggy Glanville Hicks residency.

He is a multiple award winner with many jazz Bell awards and an Aria Award in 2015 for best Jazz Album (Mooroolbark).

This is a rare concert that you will not want to miss.

Doors at 6pm with music from 7pm.

The Starfish Kitchen will be open from 6.15pm.
