What materials do I need?

BYOB (sketchbook that is)! Whatever drawing tools and materials you feel most comfortable with is what you can use for this workshop. The instructor will be showing demonstrations on either iPad and/or a drawing notepad to show the same techniques and skills being taught in both digital and traditional format.

Is this beginner friendly?

To an extent, yes! Absolutely! Intermediate artists trying to gain better understanding of a specific skill, advanced artists who are trying to brush up on rusty techniques, and brand new beginner artists who can only manage stick figures can all gain something from these workshops. This isn't a "learn to draw like the instructor" class. This is a learn how to develop your style into a more believable presentation for its world.

How am I supposed to ask questions or show my art if the microphone and camera for guests are off?

You’ll still be able to participate! Questions can be asked through the live chat. Cameras and microphones stay off to keep the class low-pressure and focused, but interaction is still encouraged. Students who want to share their artwork progress are welcome to do so through email after the workshop. A follow-up email after each class is over will detail the procedure to complete that.

Will the session be recorded?

Yes. So that everyone has a chance to complete the walkthrough at their own speed, every registered student will receive a link through email to the playback video. This way you can watch it slower, pause when needed, and try out different ways to present the shown techniques on your own time.

Join Petites Étoiles Atelier for Starlight Archivist, a 12 session workshop virtual masterclass series built around one recurring character: the Archivist. Each workshop stands alone, so you can join any session without needing to catch up.

Across three focused blocks, you’ll study the skills that make a character design feel cohesive and believable.

Block 1 explores the Archivist’s face, headwear, and drapery in motion.
Block 2 moves into gear, armor, and companion interaction.
Block 3 develops those ideas through sequential storytelling, including panel layout, camera angles, and ink rendering.

Draw along either using the Archivist as your reference, bringing your own original character, or a work in fan art. The demonstrated principles apply either way, in multiple facets. Sessions are live with participant cameras and microphones off for a low-pressure drawing environment. A permanent replay is included with registration, so you can revisit the workshop anytime or better work at your own pace.

Cancellation, Refund & Participation Policy Starlight Archivist — Virtual Masterclass Series — Petites Étoiles Atelier LLC This policy applies to registrations for the Starlight Archivist Virtual Masterclass Series offered by Petites Étoiles Atelier LLC. Registration Scope Starlight Archivist is a monthly series of twelve standalone workshops. Registration is for the specific scheduled occurrence selected at checkout only, not for the full twelve-workshop series. Each workshop may be registered individually as it becomes available. Cancellation & Refund Window Cancellation requests received at least 24 hours before the scheduled workshop start time are eligible for a full refund. Requests received less than 24 hours before the scheduled start time are non-refundable. Cancellation Procedure Eligible cancellations may be submitted through the attendee's Humanitix order-management link or, if assistance is required, by contacting Petites Étoiles Atelier in writing. The date and time recorded by Humanitix, or received by the studio, determines refund eligibility. Replay Access Following Late Cancellation or Absence Registered participants receive replay access regardless of attendance or cancellation timing. This includes participants who miss the live session, and participants who cancel too late to receive a refund. Late cancellation removes eligibility for a refund; it does not remove replay access, except as described under Live Chat Conduct below. No Makeup Sessions There is no separate live makeup class for missed attendance at a scheduled workshop. Replay access serves this purpose. Studio Cancellation If Petites Étoiles Atelier cancels a workshop before it begins, the studio will first make reasonable efforts to reschedule it. If a reasonable rescheduled date cannot be offered, registered participants will receive a full refund. If a workshop is materially interrupted after it begins due to circumstances within the studio's control, the studio will determine an appropriate rescheduled session, replacement recording, refund, or credit based on the portion affected. Studio Technical Issues A brief interruption, temporary loss of connection, or other minor technical issue that does not materially prevent delivery of the workshop does not create refund eligibility. If a major failure of the hosting platform or the studio's broadcast setup materially prevents a workshop from being delivered, Petites Étoiles Atelier will first attempt to reschedule the session. If rescheduling is not reasonably possible, participants will receive a refund or an agreed studio credit. Participant Technical Issues Internet connectivity issues, device problems, or other technical difficulties on the participant's end do not create refund eligibility. Replay access remains available regardless. Cameras & Microphones Participant cameras and microphones remain off by default for all sessions. The studio will explicitly state if this changes for a specific session; participants should not assume camera or microphone use is expected or required. Live Chat Conduct Questions and comments submitted through live chat must remain respectful, age-appropriate, and suitable for a general audience. Disruptive or inappropriate participation may result in removal from the live session. A participant removed for violating these conduct requirements is not entitled to a refund. Replay access may also be revoked when reasonably necessary because of serious or repeated misconduct. Artwork Submissions & Feedback Questions during the live session are handled through chat. Artwork feedback is handled through the studio's designated submission method. Submitting artwork does not guarantee immediate feedback during the live session. Artwork submitted for instructional feedback remains the student's property and will not be used for studio marketing or public display solely because it was submitted for feedback. Any separate use remains subject to the studio's applicable artwork/photo permissions. Recording & Replay Use Petites Étoiles Atelier records each workshop to provide replay access to registered participants. Participants may not record, redistribute, repost, sell, or otherwise publicly share the replay. Participants should understand that display names, chat content, or other information entered into the workshop platform may be visible to the instructor and, depending on platform settings, may appear in the recording. Participants should not submit private or sensitive information through the live chat. Individual Access Registration and replay access are for the registered participant only. Access links may not be shared with unregistered individuals or used to provide group access unless Petites Étoiles Atelier has expressly authorized it. Replay Availability Replay access is included with registration and is intended to remain available on an ongoing basis. Petites Étoiles Atelier may migrate the replay to another hosting platform or replace the access link as necessary. Intellectual Property Instructional materials, demonstrations, handouts, and workshop recordings remain the intellectual property of Petites Étoiles Atelier and/or their respective creators. Registration grants the participant a limited, non-transferable license to use provided instructional materials for personal educational use only. Materials may not be reproduced, distributed, resold, or republished without permission. Students retain ownership of the original artwork they personally create during a workshop. Fan Art & Original Characters Students may work from the Starlight Archivist, their own original characters, or fan art of existing characters during a workshop. Participation in a workshop does not grant the student, or any other party, commercial rights to third-party copyrighted characters. Registration Transfers Registrations may be transferred to another eligible participant before the scheduled workshop with prior approval from Petites Étoiles Atelier. The replacement participant must provide any required registration information before attending. Transfers are not permitted after the workshop begins or after replay access has been issued. Minors Registration of a participant under 18 must be completed or authorized by a parent or legal guardian. The parent or guardian is responsible for ensuring that the participant complies with these participation terms. Age & General Audience This workshop is conducted as an all-ages, general-audience program in both language and content, even in sessions where adult participants are present. Governing Law This policy is governed by the laws of the State of Alabama, and any disputes arising from it will be resolved in Madison County, Alabama. Petites Étoiles Atelier is a Huntsville-based character design academy built for artists who want to learn how to create characters with more intention, confidence, and personality.

We offer classes, camps, workshops, and specialty programs for youth and adults, with lessons that can cover drawing fundamentals, shape language, expressions, posing, costumes, props, comics, and visual storytelling. Some programs are structured and sequential, while others are short creative experiences designed to let artists explore a specific idea or skill.

Beginners are always welcome, and more experienced artists can use the same lessons to push their work further. My goal is to make character design feel approachable without watering it down—to give students real tools they can keep using long after a class ends.

Petites Étoiles is also proudly human-made. All artwork, demonstrations, and instruction come from an artist, with no generative AI used in the creative process.

Most of all, I want this to be a place where artists can try things, ask questions, make mistakes, build confidence, and leave with work that feels like their own.
