This event has passed Register

Event description

You have a start-up but funding is the oil that will help that succeed, or break down. So how do you raise the money?

In this practical session we will consider capital raising for start-ups in Aotearoa New Zealand. We will consider things like:

  • Raising funding and the key things to know
  • The critical documents like term sheets, subscription agreements, shareholder agreements
  • How ‘vesting’, ESOPs and founder incentivisation works
  • Other options such as Family & Friends, SAFEs, convertible notes and loans
  • Which options suit which type of start-up?
  • Complying with the rules of the FMA (Financial Markets Authority)
  • Founder dynamics we have seen and how to avoid the ones that cause implosion
  • How to do all the above while staying legally safe.

When attending you will also qualify for a free conversation with one of our team to discuss your situation as well.

Steven Moe is a lawyer who has practised since 2001 and worked in London, Tokyo, Sydney and across New Zealand. He will share practical tips and insights and answer your questions.
